Early Christmas for those starting local newsletters

👋 Hi Reader,

You know I am a sucker for seeing local businesses thrive. I never leave any stone unturned to cover helpful resources at the intersection of local businesses and newsletters.

Since we are heading into downtime for the holiday season, I figure some of you are preparing hard and committing yourself to launch a local newsletter or media brand in 2026. If that’s a 'hell yes', you are in luck.

I compiled 3 digital stocking stuffers from the best experienced local newsletter creators, I have seen this year.

Let’s begin.

Stocking Stuffer #1

You get to understand first-hand how an experienced local newsletter operator runs the business from TJ Larkin, CEO of Local Media HQ:

Now that you have a great overview on what it takes to run one, let’s start putting together a local newsletter.

I have personally heard from a lot of new creators, that putting together the content for an issue takes a lot of work.

I believe that’s where Aniket Panjwani’s video on how to automate a local newsletter using Claude Code comes in.

Alright then. You are off to the local newsletter races, and cannot get enough of the opportunities it offers.

But what happens when you get stuck being consistent, and would like to learn from other local newsletter operators?

Much as I would like to wager Letterstack is where you would go to, when it comes to local newsletter community-building, no one I know holds a candle to Michael Kauffman and The Newsletter Club.

Michael has been building in the local newsletter trenches as long as I have known, and he is now building beyond newsletters to launch in-person meetups in early 2026.

If I were you, I would closely follow him on LinkedIn and X, and get onto his event waitlist at the first opportunity.

Still have questions on local newsletters? You know I am here to help. Let us know by hitting ‘Reply’ on this email, or send a note to marketing@letterstack.co, and I would be happy to be a sounding board for your decision-making process.

No questions? I wish you a great downtime and happy holidays to you and your families! See you next week.

👋 Hi Reader, Thank you for your patience over the last 10 days. I was due to write this issue on the morning of Feb 28th from Austin, when I heard about the war breaking out. Since then, I had just one priority: to get to my family back home safely as soon as possible. I am now back home after a protracted series of flight delays and cancellations, so let me get right to the task at hand: my takeways from NMS 2026. Pre-event meetup - 25th Feb I was at this event last year. And I was surprised...

👋 Hi Reader, Apologies for the radio silence this week. I had been making my way halfway across the world, so I can attend the New Media Summit in Austin on Feb 26-27. I spent the last couple of days figuring out which city I woke up in :) which is why I missed the usual Sat morning Eastern schedule for this issue. Matt McGarry from Growletter has been one of my primary go-to people for everything related to newsletters. When Growletter organized their first-ever newsletter summit in Feb 2025...

👋 Hi Reader, There’s a school of thought that you might never become rich or famous building for too niche an audience. That you might not be able to reach out to enough subscribers to make your newsletter habit worthwhile. That no body posts videos about your niche online. But that’s where the opportunity lies: To build content in a void that your target audience is craving for. Alexis Grant understood that. Her first two companies got acquired, and while going through the acquisition...
