I will have what she's having

πŸ‘‹ Hi Reader,

It's no secret that when you read most of the content online, especially on Linkedin, you get an uncanny sense that it's being written by AI. A lot of creators are getting smarter about it, and using other's content to get an engaging tone of voice, and running with that playbook.

No guilt in that. If English is not your first language, or if you are not fluent in writing, you begin with copywork - you take someone's writing style, and place it in your circumstances, and tell your story in that tone of voice.

But Every is not like your run-of-the-mill content machine. I have long admired their varied writing styles from different practitioners, Katie Parrott in particular.

So when she mentioned that she is writing her content with AI assists, I had to jump onto the Github repo she launched recently on LinkedIn.

And frankly, between the writing-by-hand purist and the AI-forward content creator, this might be the middle ground that anyone looking for assistance in writing with depth, might look upto.

Everyone in the Every org (pun absolutely intended) writes and documents their work in public, including their engineers and product managers. Katie took their existing plugin style and built a similar repo on Github, calling it Compound Writing.

Great, another writing skill on Github

Not really. Let me explain.

Most of the so-called writing skills that you see floating around online are humanizing/minimizing-AI-slop-detection skills.

None focus on the actual question that begs answering:

Is this something my audience would love to read?

Katie's skill system actually puts a playbook around presenting an argument about a particular topic, and then build a compelling body of evidence to support the argument.

In plain terms, what a human editor would do, if you were to send over a draft to them. They will find the spine of your topic's narrative, and then reorder to add evidence to it, or more importantly, remove fluff from it, to make it read-worthy.

Alright. You have my undivided attention.

Can this write your next newsletter issue? No.

It may in fact lead to a longer thinking-writing phase, but the end outcome might be something in your inimitable voice, and it would be readable.

That itself is worth the price of exploring, isn't it? I know for a fact, I am going to deploy this approach on our next newsletter issue, and I will come back with my notes, if it worked for me.

Looking to understand this approach better, along with the other skills you have in your AI instance? I have been implementing such writing systems for my clients for a while now, so I would love to be a sounding board.

πŸ‘‹ Hi Reader, If you are building stuff in the creator economy, and you haven't heard of Taylor Cromwell, what are you even doing? Seriously, Taylor is one of my favorite people online, and offline. I met her in Austin early this year, and she's so generous with the conversations that she gets to have in the creator economy space and the people that she meets here. She always shares whatever she has learned, and she's a big fan of being able to manifest her dream career and life in public....

πŸ‘‹ Hi Reader, I see all these naysayers dumping on LinkedIn, saying it's full of AI slop. Those who think that LinkedIn's feed isn't great clearly haven't seen Jen Allen-Knuth in action. Jen is a force of nature. She is a champion at teaching sales, and she has created so much collateral around understanding how to sell effectively and break into executive conversations, you almost regret that you discovered her profile too late. To top that, Jen has an amazing sense of humor, so it always...

πŸ‘‹ Hi Reader, If you are writing a newsletter for niche B2B buyers, I have got news for you. Adam Ryan, Workweek CEO, announced on LinkedIn that they are moving away from a content platform to a newsletter platform. Adam's LinkedIn announcement this week Great, another newsletter platform, right? Not just another newsletter platform. Workweek always had their newsletter portfolio game on point. They were writing on finance, e-commerce (Go-to-Millions with Ari Murray) and other lucrative niches...
